HYPE
Healthy Youth *
Positive Engagement
HYPE is a program that is aimed for students in Years 7–12 who have transitioned, or are preparing to transition, from mainstream schooling into Distance Education. HYPE provides a structured, low-stimulation environment aimed at reducing stress, supporting emotional regulation, and enabling sustained engagement in education. The program emphasises stabilisation, routine-building, and graded re-engagement with learning.
Through connection, engagement, and strengths-focused support, the program provides flexible opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop practical life and social skills, strengthen community connection, and participate in meaningful activities that support their overall wellbeing and daily functioning. HYPE is proudly based in Roma and funded by the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN).

HYPE targets functional impairment associated with:
- Anxiety, mood disturbance, and school avoidance
- Neurodevelopmental differences (e.g. ASD, ADHD) impacting participation
- Emotional dysregulation and reduced coping capacity
- Psychosocial stressors affecting attendance and engagement

Within the HYPE program, young people are supported to:
- Be enrolled in, or supported to enrol in, an approved online or flexible schooling model
- Engage in structured learning within the HYPE environment (five days per fortnight)
- Develop emotional regulation skills and improve coping strategies
- Establish consistent routines and a sense of safety
- Increase tolerance for learning demands and task engagement
- Strengthen communication and social functioning
- Progress toward transition goals (return to school, alternative pathways, or vocational engagement)
Our Occupational Therapist works with the young person and their family to understand how things like mood, routines, relationships and environment affect daily life.
Together, we develop practical strategies and goals to support wellbeing and help young people re-engage with everyday activities.

Referral and Intake Process
Referrals to Peace Lily House can be made by young people, families, schools, health professionals, or community services. To request a referral form, please contact us through the website contact form, email, or phone. Once the completed referral form has been returned by email, our team will review the information and aim to respond within one working week.
From there, we will arrange an intake appointment with the young person and their parent/s, caregiver/s, and/or support network in a relaxed, welcoming, and youth-friendly environment. During this conversation, we take the time to get to know the young person, explore their strengths, interests, goals, and what is already working well in their life, while also discussing any challenges they may be experiencing. Together, we identify how Peace Lily House and other local supports may be able to assist in building connection, wellbeing, confidence, and positive pathways forward. Our approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to the unique needs of each young person and family.
